Based in Mexico City, Matthieu Jan is a Partner leading Control Risks’ Crisis and Security Consulting practice in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
He is responsible for delivering security risk consulting solutions across the region and advising Control Risks’ clients on issues related to risk management, risk prevention and crisis management. He has experience in various business sectors such as aeronautics, oil and gas, cosmetics, mining, pharmaceuticals and engineering, as well as diplomatic missions.
Matthieu’s recent experience includes:
- Advising corporate executives on numerous actual acute crises in Mexico and Central America including extortion, kidnap-for-ransom, product theft, and reputational issues.
- Facilitating various risk management workshops with key stakeholders to identify the greatest risks to an organization’s assets and creating solutions to best mitigate these risks. Developing and implementing an organizational model for companies to reshape security roles and processes in line with business objectives.
- Conducting risk assessments for international clients with operations throughout Latin America. These projects involve providing a comprehensive security risk assessment of the areas they are currently operating, as well as recommendations to reduce the security risk of its critical assets.
- Developing customized crisis management trainings for a variety of audiences (executive boards of large multinational firms, diplomatic corps, NGOs), focusing on current threats in Latin America such as extortion, kidnapping and criminal activity trends.
Earlier in his career Matthieu served as an Officer in the French Navy overseeing nautical security on war vessels and submarines. He also has experience working as a risk analyst for Asia and Latin America for a security company in Paris, France, and as a project manager and security consultant for the Mexican subsidiary of a French risk consultancy where he focused on delivering security engineering and consultancy to clients throughout Latin America.
Matthieu is a French national who has lived and worked in Europe, Latin America and Asia. He spent five years studying at ESSCA, a French Business School, where he earned a master’s degree in banking and finance. He is a native French speaker and is fluent in English and Spanish.
