Case Study: Protective Design & Blast Engineering

A leading global social media company based in California was expanding its headquarters at a new site. The company engaged Control Risks to understand its terrorism risk exposures, establish structural design requirements and then act on its behalf in technical discussions with the multi-disciplinary design team.

We conducted an assessment in two stages:

  • First, a blast threat and risk assessment identified the threats to the campus, the likelihood of occurrence and the resulting overall risk.
  • Second, a blast vulnerability assessment estimated the consequence of a successful attack on the key areas of the site.

  • We provided specialist design services to develop a blast resistant superstructure and blast resistance glazing.
  • The client acquired a sophisticated understanding of its terrorism risk exposure.
