Sergio Guzmán is Control Risks’ principal Colombia, Bolivia and Suriname analyst. He provides business, security and political risk analysis for the Andean Region and has particular experience in the Colombian Conflict, International Conflict Resolution and Development.
Sergio’s recent consulting experience includes:
- Providing a multi-layered community risk management assessment to a major oil and gas company in Colombia to help the company determine the future of its community engagement strategy.
- Participating in a research team looking at reputational risk issues for a major coal mining company in Colombia.
- Carrying out a detailed security threat assessment of key cities in Venezuela for a Mexican company looking to understand the evolving political and security context of the country.
Before joining Control Risks, Sergio was the Lead Specialist for Latin America and the Caribbean and Eastern Europe and Central Asia for Accion International, a global microfinance organization. He also worked at the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs of the US Congress, and the Inter-American Dialogue, a prestigious think tank.
Sergio holds a Masters in International Economics and International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is a native Spanish speaker, speaks English and is proficient in Portuguese. Sergio has spoken at numerous regional and international conferences.
