Jonathan is Associate Director, Compliance, Forensics & Intelligence for the Middle East. He manages a team of consultants and researchers and oversees all reputational and regulatory due diligence, problem solving and dispute support cases for the Arabic-speaking Middle East. Jonathan focuses on the GCC countries, and particularly Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman, and has consulted at board and partner level for numerous financial institutions and law firms.
Jonathan’s work focuses on supporting clients in the following fields: managing exposure to instruments of anti-bribery and corruption legislation such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act; assessing the reputation, track record, standing and perceived integrity of counterparties before a transaction or relationship; and profiling the asset position, trading and financial status of a counterparty before pursuing a dispute.
Jonathan’s recent consulting experience includes:
- Devising and delivering an in-depth volume compliance due diligence programme for an international bank facing an acute regulatory crisis
- Managing a sensitive internal investigation for a UAE-based investment house concerned about a disgruntled former employee damaging the reputation of the company.
- Investigating the trading status and asset position of an Egyptian media company for a regional bank which had invested in one of the company’s failed television series.
Before joining Control Risks, Jonathan worked in the counter-terrorism and restorative justice department of a niche London law firm. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Law and a distinction-level Master’s degree in International Relations. Jonathan has Arabic and French, and some German.
