As a Director in Control Risks’ Compliance, Forensics & Intelligence practice, Joe manages a range of integrity-related assignments in South-east Asia, with a particular focus on Indonesia. He advises clients in areas including business intelligence and due diligence investigations, anti-bribery and anti-corruption consulting, and reactive investigations. Joe has also authored articles on the impact of the UK Bribery Act, and best practices in workplace investigations.

Joe’s recent projects include:

  • Conducted due diligence investigations into companies in the resources, financial services and real estate sectors in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, focused on assessing the subjects’ track records, integrity and key connections.
  • Consulted with various companies to ensure compliance with the UK Bribery Act and FCPA, including on-the-ground corruption risk assessments in the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
  • Provided independent investigative support to a client following a fatal incident in a South-east Asian country. The investigation involved a week-long deployment to the country, interviews of witnesses, and a review of relevant documentation.

Prior to joining the Singapore office, Joe worked for nearly five years in Control Risks’ Sydney office.  Prior to this he worked in Control Risks’ London head office in the Global Risk Analysis team, working on bespoke client reports examining issues such as security risks in southern Thailand and political risks in Myanmar. Before joining Control Risks, Joe was an editor at one of the UK’s largest economic consultancies and Middle East editor at a political risk consultancy.

Joe holds an honours degree from the University of Hull in the UK. He also holds a Certificate III in Investigative Services, and has completed the Investigators Course run by the Centre for Investigative Studies & Crime Reduction at Charles Sturt University, NSW.
